Corrupt traffic cops nabbed
Four national traffic officers were arrested yesterday for robbery, racketeering and theft.
JOHANNESBURG - Amid calls for a thorough audit of the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the road traffic authority says it doesn't tolerate corruption and rejects such behaviour with contempt.
Four national traffic police officers were arrested in Eldorado Park yesterday for robbery, racketeering and theft.
The RTMC says it will ensure action is taken against the group who were cornered after police received a tip-off about a hijacked vehicle.
Transport Minister Dipuo Peters says criminals should not be allowed to masquerade as civil servants in uniform.
Her spokesperson Tiyani Rikhotso says the department is committed to removing lawless officials.
"There is no room for criminals in the service. The minister has urged the board to conduct a thorough audit of the calibre of the officers."
