Illegal initiation deaths rise to 29
The Traditional Affairs Dept says many illegal schools are run by young men out to make a quick buck.
JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Traditional Affairs says three Eastern Cape men are expected in court tomorrow for allegedly running illegal initiation schools.
The current death toll this initiation season stands at 29 with 24 of the incidents reported in the province.
Government says despite its effort to educate traditional leaders about health and safety requirements, many continue to operate illegally.
Department of Traditional Affairs spokesperson Sifiso Ngcobo says many of these schools are run by young men looking to make a quick buck.
