Pagad member expected in court
A suspected drug merchant has laid charges of malicious damage to property against a Pagad member.
CAPE TOWN - An alleged Tafelsig drug merchant has laid charges of malicious damage to property against a People Against Gangsterism and Drugs (Pagad) leader in the area.
Two weeks ago the controversial anti-crime group joined the Freedom Park community in Tafelsig in a march to clamp down on the distribution of drugs in the area.
Pagad's Mogammad Kieraan claims angry residents smashed the windows of a well-known drug lord's house and car during the march after he failed to listen to the crowd's plea.
He says Pagad members were simply asked to support the residents and remain in the background while they marched.
Kieraan has been ordered to appear in court on Wednesday.
He says, "The case against me now is that I am the perpetrator of the violence against the car and the house. But I know it is not true. We'll give evidence to the contrary of that report."
