Suspected cop killers expected in court
Five suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates Court for the murder of an Mfuleni officer.
CAPE TOWN - Five men will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates Court today in connection with the murder of one of three policemen who were murdered last week.
The suspects were arrested in various parts of Mfuleni at the weekend and are charged with the fatal shooting of a 41-year-old officer last Monday.
Two Nyanga policemen were also killed while responding to a crime scene on the same day.
Western Cape Community Safety MEC Dan Plato has commended the swift action by investigators.
"I think that is what's expected in cases like these and it sends the right message to the public. But also to all perpetrators of violence, it's a case that must happen in all of the murder cases."
He says it also sends a strong message that attacks on police will not go unpunished.
Meanwhile, three men have been questioned in the connection with the murders of the two Nyanga policemen.
A memorial service will be held for the slain South African Police Service (SAPS) members on Tuesday.
