CT recovers after rainy weekend
Mop-up operations are underway after heavy rain and blistering cold took over the Cape at the weekend.
CAPE TOWN - Mop-up operations will continue in and around the Cape today following a weekend of heavy rain.
Approximately 26,000 people have been affected by inclement weather this weekend.
More than 7,000 informal and formal dwellings were damaged in areas such as Nyanga, Khayelitsha, Delft and Philippi.
Cape Town disaster risk management's Wilfred Solomons-Johannes says, "We anticipate that disaster teams will provide much relief and bring assistance to the people throughout winter."
Meanwhile, Khayelitsha residents at the weekend demanded proper housing and not relief aid.
City of Cape Town Disaster Management teams visited the area on Saturday, to assess storm damage and distribute aid for people affected by heavy rain and flooding.
The cold front has seen many areas of the Western Cape covered in snow.
Residents braved cold, wet weather to repair the damage caused by heavy rain and flooding.
