Animal neglect investigated on Modise's farm
Animals were left without food and water on Thandi Modise's farm, which resulted in over 50 dead pigs.
CAPE TOWN - The National Council for SPCA said it will launch an investigation into alleged animal neglect and cruelty at the National Council of Provinces Chairperson Thandi Modise's Potchefstroom farm.
According to reports, police and SPCA officials found the farm animals were left without food and water for nearly two weeks at Modise's farm.
This resulted in more than 50 dead pigs, with the remaining 85 cannibalising on rotting carcasses.
The farm also houses goats, sheep, chickens and geese
The SPCA's Andries Venter said the people who were left to take care of the farm absconded, leaving the animals without food and water.
"We arrived on the farm to find carcasses in the same enclosure as live animals and pigs eating off the dead ones."
