#Brazil2014: Belgium to take on Argentina

The meanest defence and the best attack - on paper - meet today in the third quarterfinal of the 2014 World Cup as Belgium take on Argentina for a spot in the semi-finals.

The Red Devils of Belgium have been dubbed the dark horses of the tournament because of the number of stars available for selection. However despite having the likes of Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku in their ranks they have failed to click and set the tournament alight.

Their attack has looked ordinary for all the games so far and they have put in workmen like performances during the tournament. They, however, can take pride in knowing that they have a mean defence that has only conceded two goals. That stat could come in handy as they take on an Argentinean side that are heavily reliant on Lionel Messi to produce the magic.

For Messi, who is looking to win the trophy in order to prove that he is the best player in the world, he needs his teammates to step up and start carrying the burden of expectations as the South Americans attempt to win their third World Title.

The battle in this game will be between Argentina's front line of Angel di Maria, Messi and Gonzalo Higuain and Belgium's defence that includes Vincent Kompany and Jan Vertongen.

That front three have scored five goals, four from Messi alone, but having conceded only two goals the Red Devils will be fairly confident of keeping their much fancied opponents quiet.

My pick: 1-0 to Argentina.

The second match sees the Netherlands playing Costa Rica. This game should be a walkover for Louis van Gaal's men, who have surprised many with their attacking flair during the tournament. While their win over Mexico in the round of 16 may have been controversial because of Arjen Robben's alleged 'dive' to secure the win for his team, I suspect there will be no repeat of such drama this time around with the Oranje claiming an easy win.

My pick: Netherlands to win 3-1 with a Robben as one of the goals scorers.
