Road flooding in Cape Town
Officials say roads in Wynberg, Claremont, Newlands, and parts of the N1 and N2 are flooded.
CAPE TOWN - Several roads were under water as heavy rain lashed the Mother City, Cape Town Traffic Services said on Friday.
Heavy congestion was reported in parts of the city centre during peak-hour traffic.
The heavy rains are expected to continue over the next 24 hours.
Cape Town Traffic Services spokesperson Maxine Jordaan warned motorists to drive with care.
"Roads in Wynberg, Claremont, Newlands, and parts of the N1 and N2 are flooded."
The Western Cape Health Department has placed additional emergency service personnel on duty as a precaution.
Spokesperson Robert Daniels says 65 ambulance crews and three rescue crews are on high alert.
Snow and gale force winds of up to 70 kilometres per hour have been predicted.
