Ramokgopa: Cable theft probes escalated
Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa says cable theft investigations have been escalated to national level.
JOHANNESBURG - Tshwane Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa says cable theft investigations in the capital have been escalated to national level.
Ramokgopa says the city is being sabotaged by organised gangs.
Since April, 459 cases of cable theft and substation tampering have been reported, costing Tshwane millions of rand.
Large parts of Centurion are still without power for a fourth day now after two substations were vandalised.
The mayor says the possibility that the city's own employees may be working with syndicates cannot be ruled out.
"This is orchestrated. These are people who've got the skills, the technical know-how, they know where to hit us and they're running amok across the length and breadth of the city."
