CT 'gang boss' case postponed

CAPE TOWN - An alleged Cape Town gang boss, arrested in connection with a gun license racket, is expected back in court in September.

Ralph Stanfield was released from police custody on R100,000 bail on Tuesday.

He and five co-accused appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on various charges, including fraud and corruption.

The alleged 28s gang boss, three police officials and two women are due back in the dock on 4 September.

In arguing for bail Stanfield's lawyer said his client would not interfere with any witnesses or the case.

He also pointed out his client has no previous convictions or pending cases.

Meanwhile, the three police officers arrested at the Pretoria Firearms Registry last week have been granted bail of R20,000.

It's alleged they than a racket that fraudulently licensed top of the range firearms.
