Two cops gunned down in Nyanga

CAPE TOWN - Two officers have been gunned down in the Western Cape, police confirmed on Monday.

The South African Police Services (SAPS) members were shot and killed in Nyanga this afternoon.

It's believed the incident took place near a local library in the Cape Town township.

The suspects made off with the officers' firearms.

According to reports, the policemen were shot while in their official vehicle.

Details around the incident are still unclear at this stage.

Western Cape Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer says he is devastated by the deaths.

"We are really shocked and really disappointed in the fact that another two police officers were killed by the same people we are supposed to serve."

Authorities are investigating the incident.
