Social development to visit Marikana
Bathabile Dlamini will visit Marikana to inspect the impact of relief aid sent to the area.
JOHANNESBURG - Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini will today visit the community of Marikana in the North West to inspect the impact of relief aid sent to the area.
The minister's visit follows the end of the five month long platinum strike which caused what's been described as a humanitarian crisis.
Thousands of families were left without food or income for the duration of the strike and the department said it had to drastically increase delivery of relief to the area.
The department's Lumka Oliphant said today's visit will be an assessment.
"The minister wants to visit Marikana to see if the work she commissioned to do was done. She also wants to speak to the community to hear what their grievances are."
