SAO PAULO - Millions of people in Brazil are celebrating their team's progression into the quarterfinals of the World cup.

Following a tense match against Chile, the hosts eventually won on penalties.

Celebrations continued long into the night as Brazil booked its spot in the last eight in the World Cup.

Fans from all over the country piled into restaurants, bars, fan parks and even petrol stations to watch the match.

The hosts beat Chile in a tense penalty shootout, which had fans for the home team praying that their country would not be knocked out.

Brazilians partied into the night following their emotional win over Chile after matters ended 1-1 after extra time, the match went to penalties.

'Off to Rio we go' sang fans signaling their belief that the hosts will go all the way to the semifinals on 13 July.
