Scopa calls for accountability in misused funds
Scopa says taxpayers deserve to know why R10bn was spent on consultants in the Western Cape.
CAPE TOWN - The chairperson of the Standing Committee On Public Accounts (Scopa) in the Western Cape says taxpayers deserve to know why R10 billion was spent on consultants in the province.
The DA and the ANC have accused each other of being responsible for the exorbitant spending over a period of three years.
This week, the controversy deepened when Premier Helen Zille said under former public works MEC Marius Fransman, money was spent on functions and campaigns that didn't take place, but Fransman denies this.
Scopa chairperson Ferlon Christians says this matter must be dealt with urgently.
"Because of the outstanding matter nothing has been finalised and it's something hanging in the air that we need to make sure we finalise it. We owe it to the public."
