Madiba funeral graft: More arrests possible
Buffalo City Mayor Zukiswa Ncitha and five others were arrested on Monday.
CAPE TOWN - More arrests are possible in connection with alleged fraud involving former president Nelson Mandela's memorial service, the Hawks said on Thursday.
Buffalo City Mayor Zukiswa Ncitha and five other officials were arrested for their role in the scandal.
The suspects, including two business people, were arrested on Monday.
Hawks spokesperson Paul Ramaloko says investigators have identified more suspects linked to the scandal.
Ncitha and the other officials face charges of fraud, money laundering and corruption.
It's alleged the municipality misused an estimated R6 million.
Mandela passed away at his Johannesburg home in early December.
His funeral service took place in his home town of Qunu in the Eastern Cape.
