Parts of Roodepoort without power
Residents say they haven’t had electricity since the early hours of Wednesday morning.
JOHANNESBURG - A number of power outages have been reported in parts of the City of Johannesburg on Thursday afternoon.
Roodepoort residents say they haven't had electricity since the early hours of Wednesday morning.
"I was awake at that time and there was a flicker and the lights went out. We have not had lights since that time. It's now over 32 hours [later]. Everything here [in my fridge] has rotted. I am down to one bar with all the calls that I have had to make."
Meanwhile, angry Soweto residents from Protea South gathered at Eskom's offices demanding an explanation as to why they haven't had power in the past three weeks.
City Power spokesperson Louis Pieterse says they're dealing with a backlog of calls and are attending to the situation.
He says theft resulted in the outage in the Roodepoort area and electricity will be restored this afternoon.
