ANC probes Prince crash
The Beaufort West mayor’s Mercedes-Benz collided with a truck earlier this month.
CAPE TOWN - The African National Congress (ANC) on Thursday said it launched its own investigation into a car crash involving controversial Beaufort West Mayor Truman Prince.
Police say Prince's Mercedes-Benz allegedly overtook another vehicle, which caused him to collide with a truck, while driving down Donkin Street on 17 June.
The ANC's Cobus Grobler says the ruling party will institute its own internal investigation into the matter.
"We want to find out what is going on."
Prince faced drunken driving charges in the past.
He is now being investigated for reckless and negligent driving.
Community members claimed the mayor was seen drinking with friends on the day of the accident.
Prince rubbished the claims as "rumours", saying no blood tests were done to determine if he was intoxicated.
