CT cracks down on drug traffickers
The City of Cape Town says over 1,000 drug trafficking arrests have been made since January.
CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town say the number of drug related arrests made by law enforcement officials have more than quadrupled in recent years.
There have been more than 1,000 arrests and around 28,000 units of Mandrax, Tik and Marijuana have been confiscated since January this year alone.
Today is the United Nations (UN) International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The City's JP Smith says they are trying their best to combat the growing drug problem.
"That is an impressive improvement over the 380 a year we used to get. We're about six or seven times more efficient on my watch. While we tackle supply aggressively on the one side, we're doing about five times more arrests that any other city in South Africa."
