NATAL, BRAZIL - Italy's World Cup is over, while Uruguay moved on as the runner-up of Group D, most likely facing Colombia.

Uruguay take advantage of their numerical supremacy and advance into the Round of 16 as the second-place team from Group D after a tense affair in Natal that ended 1-0 in the South Americans favour.

Captain Diego Godin's goal proved to be enough as La Celeste move on and send Italy home.

The game was marred by rash challenges and a red card to Claudio Marchisio, and perhaps another Luis Suarez biting incident.

Costa Rica's 0-0 draw against England was enough for Los Ticos to take the top spot in the group.
