Cosatu to lead one-day strike against Metrorail
Cosatu will lead a one-day strike against Metrorail’s services & ticket price hike.
CAPE TOWN - The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) in the Western Cape will lead a protest march in the Cape Town City Centre on Tuesday, as part of a one-day strike against Metrorail's services.
The trade union federation is up in arms over the railways operator's plan to hike ticket fares.
Cosatu believes a rise in fares cannot be justified due to the poor state of train services in the Cape.
Cosatu's provincial secretary Tony Ehrenreich says, "It's essentially to get the minister of transport to intervene and ensure that these increases are not put in place. It's an appeal to government to step in and ensure that the services are improved but that the increases are not given effect."
