Two shot at Mitchells Plain school

CAPE TOWN - Two matric learners are recovering in hospital after they were shot and wounded at a Mitchells Plain high school, the Western Cape Education Department said on Thursday.

The incident took place at Oval North Secondary School in the Cape Town township today.

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.

The department's Robert Daniels confirmed one pupil was shot in the arm while the other learner was shot in the chest and leg.

One person was taken to Melomed Private Hospital and the other to Groote Schuur Hospital.

"Both of them are in stable condition."

The learners are aged between 19 and 20.

Police said an investigation is underway to determine if the shooting is gang-related.

No arrests have been made as yet.
