More load shedding for SA
Eskom has declared a system emergency and load shedding will be experienced around the country.
JOHANNESBURG - Eskom has declared a system emergency, saying the national power grid is under severe pressure and load shedding will be experienced in several suburbs around the country again this evening.
Tonight will be the third consecutive night of planned outages this week.
Load shedding is expected to be implemented between 5:30 and 6:30 this evening.
The power utility says if the electricity demand does not decrease dramatically, it could see emergency protocols and rolling reductions.
Eskom spokesperson Andrew Etzinger says, "Eskom anticipates a shortfall again in capacity in order to meet the demand for electricity this evening and for that reason has invoked its demand reduction protocols which involve declaring a system emergency."
The power cuts have been implemented despite the utility saying on Tuesday that no load shedding was predicted for coming weeks.
