'Pimp mother' trial to begin today
An Atlantis mother & four co-accused allegedly forced her teenage daughter into prostitution.
CAPE TOWN - The trial of five people, who are accused of child prostitution, is expected to begin in the Cape Town Magistrates Court later today.
It's alleged the accused forced an Atlantis teenage girl into a life of prostitution.
The 14-year-old teenager's mother and stepfather are among those who were arrested.
They have been in custody at Pollsmoor Prison since 2012 while the three other accused are out on bail.
It's understood the teenager was sold to men for sex along the N7 Highway for between R20 and R50 at a time.
She has since been put in a place of safety.
A psychologist is among the group of 11 witnesses who are expected to take the stand during the trial.
Meanwhile, children's rights groups are enraged and are calling for harsh punishment if the five are found guilty.
