CAPE TOWN - A shocking child prostitution case is expected to be heard in the Cape Town Magistrates Court today.

Five Atlantis residents are expected in the dock for allegedly prostituting the daughter of one of the accused.

The 14-year-old girl's mother apparently sold her to men for sex along the N7 Highway for as little as between R20 and R50 at a time.

Children's rights campaigners are enraged.

The Democratic Alliance (DA)'s Women's Network along with Atlantis residents will protest outside the court today.

It's calling on government to implement stricter measures to protect children's rights and has called for an end to heinous crimes against children.

The network's Denise Robinson says they stand in solidarity with the young girl as well as other victims of gender violence and exploitation.

"We are calling on government for more funding for social workers. Our society is in crisis. It's a dysfunctional family situation in so many cases and what are we doing about it?"
