JOHANNESBURG - Twenty people have been arrested at Sibanye Gold's Libanon shaft on the West Rand after being found in possession of gold-bearing material worth millions of rand.

The men were apprehended after an investigation by the Hawks led officers to the Carletonville mine shaft earlier today.

The arrest follows the arrest of two men in December who were found with gold-bearing material.

Hawks spokesperson Paul Ramaloko says the suspects will appear in the Carletonville Magistrates Court on Friday on charges of theft and dealing in gold-bearing materials.

He says investigations are continuing.
