Sugar strike ends
Close to 5,000 workers in the sugar industry are expected to report for work tomorrow.
JOHANNESBURG - Close to 5,000 workers in the sugar industry are expected to report for work tomorrow after the Food and Allied Workers Union (Fawu) and employers reached a wage settlement to end a strike.
The union demanded an 11 percent wage increase and a higher housing allowance.
Wage negotiations deadlocked early last month and sugar companies Illovo and Tongaat Hulett were the worst affected.
Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) director Nerine Kahn said, "The CCMA offered to intervene and the matter is being resolved and the workers will return to work."
