JOHANNESBURG - Springbok captain Victor Matfield said a return to the Springbok setup was an overwhelming experience.

He led the team to a resounding 47-13 win over the World XV yesterday, in the absence of regular skipper Jean de Villiers.

The match was also Matfield's first game in the green and gold since the 2011 World Cup.

He said he's happy to be back.

"The goose bumps were there but I really enjoyed being back in the green and gold, it always an honour. It was fantastic to be out there with the boys."

In other results, Argentina went down 29-17 to Ireland.

Australia thrashed France 50-23 at the expense of Stephen Moore. The captain was ruled out for rest of season after injuring knee 5mins into captaincy debut.

New Zealand was then pushed all the way by England, the World champions narrowly winning 20-15.
