CAPE TOWN - Snow enthusiasts have already started flocking to the Matroosberg Nature Reserve near Ceres where the first winter snow has fallen.

Parts of the mountain and roads leading up to it are covered by a blanket of snow.

Owner of the nature reserve, Didi de Kock said, "When we woke up we found snow on our lawn but it's not that thick so it won't last long."

Meanwhile, with a severe cold front fast approaching, emergency services officials in parts of the country are bracing themselves for a busy few days.

The brutal cold front already hit the Western Cape bringing with it heavy rain and wind.

The weather is only expected to clear up by the weekend.

Senior weather forecaster Kate Turner said some high-lying areas will also experience snow.
