Concern over shortage of doctors in SA
Concerns have been raised about the shortage of medical professionals in the country.
JOHANNESBURG - Concerns have been raised about the shortage of medical professionals in the country with pressure being put on universities to produce more doctors and nurses.
Last month, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said there were several initiatives in place to help increase the number of health workers, but stressed that this problem is not faced by South Africa alone.
The South African Medical Association's Dr Phophi Ramathuba said it's not just about producing more doctors, but also to provide students with adequate training.
"When we put pressure on universities to produce more, there's a perception that you'll have the quality of production compromised."
