'SMMEs find it difficult to employ people'
Sacci says smaller firms find it difficult to employ more people because of the country's labour laws.
JOHANNESBURG - The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) said smaller firms find it difficult to employ more people because of the country's labour laws.
Yesterday, the Congress of South African Trade Unions claimed it was a myth that the laws were keeping smaller firms back.
The federation was responding to a suggestion by Small Business Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu that smaller companies should be exempt from some labour laws.
Sacci's Chief Executive Officer Neren Rau said the country needs to start by defining a small business.
"We have to arrive at a uniform decision on Small Medium and Micro Enterprises and whether we're going to look at the size of employees, turnover or asset size."
