20 in hospital after drinking Bloemhof water
20 babies have been hospitalised after drinking contaminated water from the town's water supply.
JOHANNESBURG - More than 20 babies in Bloemhof in the North West have been admitted for medical treatment since it emerged some water supplies in the town have been contaminated.
A total of three babies died after consuming contaminated water in the Boitumelong Township.
Yesterday a municipal manager was suspended over the debacle.
The North West health department's Tebogo Lekgethwane said, "We believe they are in a stable condition and they will be discharged soon."
Meanwhile, The North West Health Department said it expects to receive results confirming the source of a water contamination in Bloemhof Dam by the end of this week.
Lekgethwane said cholera has been ruled out for now.
