Metrorail hikes ticket prices
Metrorail says it wants to ensure a better travel experience for commuters.
CAPE TOWN - Metrorail says it wants to ensure a better travel experience for commuters. The train company has hiked ticket prices nationally.
The increase in single tickets will range between 50 and 80 cents, weekly tickets will cost between R3 and R7 more, while monthly tickets will go up by between R7 and R30.
Metrorail's Mthuthuzeli Swartz says these price hikes will help the rail agency improve services.
"If we must be able to maintain the current service level and also improve it without relying on state subsidy, which is just 50 percent of our running operation, it means we must then have an inflation linked increase to the fare revenue."
