D-Day for Igesund
Gordon Igesund will today find out if Safa will extend his contract as Bafana coach.
JOHANNESBURG - The future of the current Bafana coach Gordon Igesund, will be decided today when South African Football Association (Safa) meet to deliberate the way forward for the national team.
A meeting will today be convened by Safa's National Executive Committee (NEC) to look at the national team's performances during his tenure.
Igesund's contract with Safa expires next month, but there is already talks that the federation has spoken to several managers to take over from him should they decide not to extend his current deal.
Having taken over the job in 2012 halfway through the qualifying campaign for the 2014 World Cup, Igesund was mandated to get the team to the football showpiece.
And despite winning three of the four qualifying matches he took charge of, the team failed to progress from the group stages.
Igesund's future was under the spotlight on Saturday as Safa's NEC met briefly to decide whether to extend his contract.
Safa president Danny Jordaan said there is already a short list of coaches should Igesund not be given a contract extension.
