CAPE TOWN - The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) in the Western Cape says it opposes Metrorail's latest price hike.

The increase in single tickets will range between 50 and 80 cents, weekly tickets will cost between R3 and R7 more, while monthly tickets will go up by between R7 and R30.

The rail company says the price hikes will help the rail agency improve services.

But Cosatu's Tony Ehrenreich says the increases can't be justified.

"The services at Metrorail have deteriorated and we are going to demand that the fares aren't increased and the level of service provided be improved."
