20 years of homelessness
Vinzel van Neel spends her days begging on the streets & spending her pennies on wine to keep warm.
CAPE TOWN - Around 7,000 people are living rough on Cape Town's streets.
EWN spent a few days tracking the life of Vinzel van Neel, who has been homeless for close on 20 years.
EWN found the 35-year-old mother of three behind a gate with a 'no entry' sign post, sleeping in the backyard of the Haven Night Shelter in District Six.
She had a swollen lip and a bloody nose, which she refused to explain.
But the Mills and Boon avid reader did admit she enjoys her wine.
However, she maintains she doesn't over indulge.
"I don't drink too much. I only had two litres of Namaqua the other night."
Van Neel makes her pennies begging on the streets and admits the majority of her takings are spent keeping warm by buying her favourite box of wine.
