St Albans inmate attacks warder
The prison official was stabbed several times in the face, neck and back.
JOHANNESBURG - A warder at the St Albans prison near Port Elizabeth is recovering following an attack by an inmate.
The official was stabbed several times in the face, neck and back at the weekend.
Correctional Service Department spokesperson Manelisi Wolela says the offender has been placed in isolation.
"An external investigation is underway. The stabbing of anybody is a criminal offence."
Earlier this year, two warders were also stabbed during an attack by inmates.
Five officers were initially attacked by two knife-wielding prisoners inside the facility and at the time, police were investigating the incident.
