Triple life sentence for de Jager
The double killer got an additional six-year sentence for dismembering a victim’s body.
CAPE TOWN - Convicted double murderer Johannes de Jager has been sentenced to life behind bars.
He was found guilty of killing and cutting up the body of 16-year-old Charmaine Mare in Cape Town last year.
De Jager was also convicted for the 2008 rape and murder of sex worker Hiltina Alexander.
Sentencing was handed down on Tuesday morning.
Sitting in the dock, de Jager frowned as he stared at Judge Chuma Cossie.
The judge found the crimes committed were serious and that two young lives were violated and couldn't be replaced.
She described both murders as brutal and savage.
De Jager received three life sentences for two rapes and two murders as well as a six-year sentence for dismembering Mare's body.
He appeared emotionless as sentencing was handed down.
Mare's mother, Katrina, welcomed the heavy sentence.
"I know he is a violent person, I saw him in court. He is easily annoyed
