De Jager to be sentenced
Johannes De Jager was found guilty of murdering and dismembering a 16 year-old girl & killing a sex worker.
CAPE TOWN - Convicted double murderer Johannes de Jager is expected to learn his fate in the Western Cape High Court later today.
De Jager was found guilty of killing and dismembering the body of a 16-year-old girl last year and has also been convicted for the 2008 rape and murder of a young sex worker.
The state wants nothing less than a life sentence for de Jager.
During closing arguments in court last week, the convicted killer was described as a monster by the prosecution when he preyed on one of his victims, 16-year-old Charmaine Mare.
De Jager returned to the witness stand last week, where he again insisted he is innocent of murder.
His defence council has told the court, in his words, it would have been first prize if De Jager confessed his sins and asked for mercy.
But he stands by his version of events.
