Sassa investigating corruption claims
Sassa CEO Virginia Petersen is accused of being involved in a 'jobs for pals' scandal.
JOHANNESBURG - The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed that it's investigating allegations of corruption against its CEO Virginia Petersen.
Petersen is believed to be involved in a 'jobs for pals' scandal.
A Sunday Times report suggests she allegedly secured jobs for family members of close friends including ones without the necessary qualifications.
Sassa's Kgomoco Diseko says the organisation is handling the matter at a very high level.
"As soon as the results of this investigation have been concluded, we will issue a statement."
The Democratic Alliance has meanwhile called on Public Protector Thuli Madonsela to investigate the allegations.
At the same time, Petersen has described the allegations to Eyewitness News as an "attack on her integrity".
