CAPE TOWN - Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille says workshops will be held with city officials and South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) shop stewards in a bid to resolve ongoing grievances raised by municipal workers.

Workers marched to the Civic Centre yesterday where they handed over a memorandum of demands.

The union gave the City of Cape Town 30 days to respond to its demands.

Samwu's Mike Khumalo says line managers are victimising municipal workers.

Khumalo says an example is when workers are often marked absent even if they are at work.

He says this in turn affects the workers' wages.

De Lille says government is looking into the situation.

"I am also going to put in place a monitoring and evaluation system that can monitor the relationship between workers and line managers."

She says worker grievances will be dealt with as soon as possible.
