CAPE TOWN - Stormers flyhalf Peter Grant has been dropped after being given a chance to start in his 100th game last week.

He shifts back to the bench for the clash against the Cheetahs at Newlands on Saturday.

Kurt Coleman will take up a starting berth in the number 10 jersey.

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee says Coleman deserves to start.

"I said last week that it was Peter's 100th game. It was just reward for what he has done and for what he has meant for Western Province and the Stormers over the years, so he started. After Kurt's performance against the Bulls, he warranted another start, so that is why he starts again this week."

Coetzee defended his sentimental selection of Grant last week, saying it was the right decision.

"You [the media] said it was sentimental. I said it was partly sentimental and partly tactical because Peter Grant played very well. It's a different challenge altogether this week. Kurt deserves to start because he's done really well coming off the bench and when he's gotten the opportunity to start."

In other changes, Captain Jean De Villiers's return sees Damian de Allende shift back onto the right-wing.

In the forwards, Schalk Burger starts in the number seven jersey, while loosehead prop Alistair Vermaak will make his first Super Rugby start.

Brok Harris, Siya Kolisi and wing Kobus van Wyk have all dropped down to the bench.
