JOHANNESBURG - Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety Vusi Shongwe has appealed to motorists to exercise caution when driving on the province's roads following a fatal crash on Saturday night.

Spokesman for the Community Safety Department Joseph Mabuza says preliminary investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.

"The accident reconstruction team from the department and the South African Police Services have registered a culpable homicide case which is still under investigation.

"The survivors and an eyewitness will assist both teams to ascertain the exact cause of the accident."

Negligence is being investigated as the possible cause.

Mabuza says, "We suspect human behaviour was involved because we realise that the driver was trying to do an unsafe overtaking, that's why he crashed into the back of the truck."
