JOHANNESBURG - Eskom said it was waiting to hear back from energy regulator National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) on tariff adjustments.

The parastatal has asked Nersa to evaluate the difference between projected and actual revenue as well as the costs it incurred during the three-year period between 2010 and 2013.

Depending on the outcome, customers could experience an increase or decrease in the price of electricity.

Nersa's Thembani Bukula said a decision on how tariffs will be adjusted was pending.

Yesterday, Eskom said its system would remain tight until the first two units of the multimillion rand Medupi Power Station came on line.

In March, the parastatal declared a power emergency, raising concerns about whether Eskom would be able to keep the lights on this winter.
