Driver arrested for KZN crash
A 24-year old driver has been arrested for the death of five scholars after his bakkie crashed into a dam.
JOHANNESBURG - A KwaZulu-Natal driver who lost control of his overloaded bakkie and crashed into a dam has today been charged with murder.
The 24-year old driver apparently veered off the road in the Rietvlei area on Monday, resulting in the death of five school children.
Twenty four others also managed to free themselves from the submerged bakkie but suffered from hypothermia.
The police's Jay Naicker said the driver has been charged with murder, attempted murder and reckless and negligent driving.
"He will be appearing in the Grahamstown Magistrates Court tomorrow. We will also look at the possibility of adding further charges specifically with regards to the road traffic act."
