CAPE TOWN -Traffic authorities in Cape Town have reiterated that illegal drag racing remains a big problem in the Western Cape.

This follows the arrest of five people who were taken into custody for reckless and negligent driving during a blitz on Sunday.

Racing hotspot areas include Bellville near Sacks Circle and along Robert Sobukwe Drive.

However, traffic services' Richard Coleman said that illegal races were occurring in Atlantis as well.

"It's really getting out of hand now. We have it right over the Western Cape now where they are starting their drag racing. It's not just in Bellville, it's Mitchells Plain and it's Ottery. We have even got complaints from the Sea Point area."
