Nurses awarded for excellence
Sister Catherine Collins is one of six winners chosen from more than 2,000 nominations.
CAPE TOWN - A worker from a Wellington community healthcare centre has won the Florence Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing.
Monday is International Nurses Day.
Sister Catherine Collins is one of six winners chosen from more than 2,000 nominations from hospitals across South Africa.
Winners received a Florence Nightingale trophy and a cash prize of R6,000.
One of the judges, Suzette Botha, says this day is used to honour nurses who share Nightingale's qualities.
"The reason for this day being so important for nurses is that it is Florence Nightingale's birthday. The significance of it is to motivate and remind nurses of the profession they have chosen."
Nightingale is the founder of modern day nursing.
