JOHANNESBURG - The ANC on Tuesday confirmed it has replaced Swazi Matlala as its Gauteng party agent following allegations of misconduct against her.

She was arrested on Monday evening after police found Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) material in her house on Gauteng's East Rand.

It's alleged an IEC presiding officer at a temporary voting station in Springs asked her to store the material on the IEC's behalf because her house is located near the polling station.

Matlala was later released from custody after the IEC took full responsibility for the incident.

The ANC's Nkenke Kekana says, "We believe that our party agent was acting in the best interests of safeguarding the material. However, she should've known and because of that, we have removed her from being a party agent at that voting station."
