JOHANNESBURG - The Hawks on Monday said they're not investigating any criminal case following the alleged kidnapping of a Mamelodi Sundowns soccer player.

Punch Masenamela was found in an East Rand hotel hours after he was reported missing.

Hawks spokesperson Paul Ramaloko says it was claimed that Masenamela had been abducted and a R5 million ransom was being demanded.

He says the defender was traced to the hotel using cellphone tracking.

"We happened to find him in a Johannesburg hotel. There was no sign of harm. We haven't opened up a criminal case against anyone at the moment."
