End to Amcu strike on the cards
Employees at Implats, Lonmin and Amplats have been on strike at since January.
JOHANNESBURG - Impala Platinum (Implats) said it hopes the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) will bring its three-month long strike to an end when the mining union makes what has been reported to be an important announcement today.
Employees at Implats, Lonmin and Amplats have been on strike since January demanding a salary of R12,500.
Implats's Johan Theron said, "I'm hopeful that they can see that the strike is not necessary anymore and it's time to call an end to all strikes. So it's in their hands to do the right things."
The mining company said on Friday the majority of striking workers were willing to accept the latest wage offer.
Implats said most workers were also willing to return to work after the company explained what the latest offer entailed.
