Manenberg trauma counselling to continue
One of the NGOs rendering counselling services has been removed from the area.
CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Social Development Department says trauma counselling will continue in Manenberg despite the removal of one of the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the area.
All 14 schools in the area were forced to shut down for two days last August due to gang warfare.
The Cape Town Trauma Centre for survivors of violence and torture, which was brought in by the department to provide additional counselling, will no longer be providing its services in the area.
The department's Melany Khun says another NGO will be working in the area.
"The trauma centre remains one of the NGOs that we fund and they have been funded even before the project started in Manenberg. They were funded to render trauma services across a range of communities."
Ongoing gang warfare has plagued various Cape Town communities, with residents saying they live in constant fear.
